I am a mother of two children aged 5 and 6 years. Like you I often visit playgrounds with my children. Besides swing, sandbox and slide we always find lots of garbage there. Hmm… on the first glance it might not be to much rubbish but if you take a closer look you will find many small „treasures“. Although every mother and every father is confronted with this situation, nothing changes at all and you get used to sitting on a bench with loads of cigarette butts, crown caps, candy wrappers and broken glass below your feet. Crawling children in particular like to put everything in their mouths. So my son had his first cigarette and his first Red Bull can in his mouth at the age of 1 year. Before I began to start this web page I picked up rubbish consequently for some days on different playgrounds and I talked to the city administration. I was told that some playgrounds were cleaned daily. But even there I still could find some new rubbish on every visit. I got the feeling that the city administration would be thankful for every support to improve situation and to create awareness within our fellow men for the rubbish problem.

I think it could be so simple. People are social beings and doing something with others is an essential part of their nature. We search for contact to like-minded people, we like conversation and having fun. Why not combine the useful with pleasure and clean up playgrounds together with like-minded parents? I imagine strange parents with children meeting at a playground, children playing with each other, parents talking to each other while cleaning up the area. Who knows? Maybe that is an opportunity to meet new fiends?

I believe in mankind and their good intentions, therefore I start this experiment and you are warmly invited to participate.

I am glad you are here.

Soňa.
